The Project

For Bronx Ball 2024, We helped transform a massive industrial warehouse on the former Whitestone Multiplex Theater grounds into an elegant, high-production gala celebrating the Bronx

The approximately 200,000-square-foot building offered a distinctive setting with deep ties to the borough’s history. Once associated with a drive-in movie theater, the property had taken on a new role in the Bronx’s evolving commercial landscape.  The event used approximately 15,000 square feet on the building’s second floor, above an Amazon distribution center.  The production combined a dramatic red-carpet arrival, custom lighting, immersive projections, fashion programming, and elevated hospitality to create an experience described as the “Academy Awards of the Bronx.”

The Challenge

Creating an intimate, premium event within an enormous industrial environment

The venue’s size and unconventional configuration presented a significant spatial planning challenge. With approximately 200,000 square feet available and only 15,000 needed for the event, the team had to create a defined environment that felt intentional, cohesive, and appropriately scaled for a formal gala.

The experience also needed to accommodate distinct functions, including cocktail reception, entertainment, dining, and guest circulation.  Beyond the physical environment, we had to address practical hospitality concerns. Previous editions of the event had experienced long bar lines, which made service capacity an important design consideration.  The challenge was to bring the atmosphere and comfort of a premium gala into an industrial setting while preserving the site’s historical significance.

The Approach

Use the venue’s history and scale to create a distinctive guest experience

The production strategy centered on three priorities.

• Define the environment. Rather than activate the entire warehouse, the team created a contained event footprint with separate cocktail and dining areas.

• Create a memorable arrival. A red-carpet experience guided guests from the building’s drive-in ramp entrance through the cocktail reception and into the main dining space.

• Elevate the details. Lighting, entertainment, hospitality amenities, and branded elements were coordinated to establish a consistent standard throughout the event.

The location itself contributed to the narrative. Its connection to the former theater grounds provided an opportunity to celebrate Bronx history while reflecting the borough’s continued redevelopment.

The Execution

Spatial Transformation

Working with Drape Kings, we used perimeter draping to enclose and define the event footprint within the larger warehouse.  The design established two distinct environments: a cocktail reception area and the main dining space.  A red carpet, estimated at more than 400 feet, connected the arrival ramp to both areas, creating a continuous guest journey.

Lighting & Immersive Production

Ralph Mercado Enterprises provided lighting, sound, AV, and specialty lighting projections that added atmosphere throughout the venue.  Projection mapping by Halucinated Studios introduced another visual dimension to the production.

Together, these elements helped transform the warehouse’s industrial character into an environment suited to a high-profile gala.

Cultural Programming

A partnership with Bronx Fashion Week brought a live fashion show into the cocktail reception.  The programming added movement, entertainment, and a distinctly Bronx cultural element to the guest experience.

Hospitality & Guest Comfort

Guest comfort received the same attention as the event’s visual presentation

A large, approximately 10-foot-square bar was designed to accommodate demand and address the long service lines experienced at previous events.  Custom-branded ice cubes featuring a Bronx-inspired mark added another detail to the hospitality experience.  The team also arranged a luxury restroom trailer with marble countertops and dedicated attendants, providing amenities appropriate to the event’s elevated presentation.

The Outcome

Bronx Ball 2024 demonstrated how a large, unconventional industrial venue could be adapted into a sophisticated event environment through intentional spatial design, coordinated production, and attention to the guest experience

The final concept brought together an extended red-carpet arrival, distinct reception and dining environments, immersive visual production, live fashion programming, and upgraded hospitality amenities.  The venue also reinforced the event’s connection to the Bronx. By returning to a location associated with the borough’s entertainment history, the production connected cultural memory with a contemporary vision of celebration and renewal.

The evening was described as the “Academy Awards of the Bronx,” capturing the prestige and sense of occasion the production sought to create.
